What Are Live Resin Gummies?

What Are Live Resin Gummies?

Live resin gummies are cannabis gummies infused with live resin. That resin is an extract made from cannabis flower frozen right after harvest.

They are edibles, so California’s rules on dose, testing and labels apply to them like any other gummy.

What is live resin?

Jetty Extracts, a company that makes cannabis extracts, describes live resin as an extract of flower flash-frozen right after harvest. Makers freeze the flower instead of drying and curing it.

Freezing helps preserve the plant’s terpenes and aromas before extraction begins, according to Jetty. Raw Garden, another extract maker, calls terpenes the aromatic compounds produced by the plant.

How does live resin get into a gummy?

The state’s Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) describes edibles as food and drink products infused with cannabis, such as brownies, gummies or iced teas.

A gummy maker chooses which cannabis extract goes into each batch. Kiva Confections, for example, describes its Lost Farm gummies and chews as infused with live resin.

Is live resin the same as live rosin?

No. Both start with fresh-frozen cannabis, Jetty says, and makers extract them in different ways.

Live resin comes from a solvent-based extraction. For live rosin, the maker uses ice, water, heat and pressure in place of a solvent.

How strong is a live resin gummy?

California caps an edible for adult use at 10 milligrams of THC per serving and 100 milligrams per package, whatever extract is inside.

That limit is section 17304 of Title 4 of the California Code of Regulations. Kiva’s site lists a Lost Farm gummy at 10 milligrams of THC per serving and 100 milligrams per pack.

What does the label on a live resin gummy show?

Section 17407 of the same regulations requires THC and CBD in milligrams, per serving and per package. Read the milligrams per serving before anything else on the pack.

On the main panel of the label, the words cannabis-infused must appear above the product name, under section 17405.

How do you know a live resin gummy is clean?

Buy it from a licensed store. The DCC requires every batch of cannabis goods to pass lab testing before a store can sell it.

Labs test for residual solvents, pesticides, heavy metals, microbial impurities and mycotoxins, the DCC says. They report the results on a Certificate of Analysis for that batch.

How long does a live resin gummy take to work?

Plan for a slow start. An edible can take up to two hours to begin and up to four hours to reach its full effects, the DCC says.

The DCC’s advice is to start low and go slow. Our guide on how to dose cannabis edibles walks through a first serving.

Store gummies in their child-resistant package, in a spot that children and pets cannot see or reach.
